In 2007, China steel industry experienced a bullish trend of the whole year. Construction steel price hiked by CNY 1400 to 1500 a tonne in total compared with early 2007, medium plate and section price surged by CNY 1300 a tonne, HRC jumped up by CNY 800 a tonne and CRC price climbed up by CNY 500 to CNY 600 a tonne.
At the beginning of the year 2007, steel market was trapped by Chinese government’s export policy. Various rumors and the new policies such as ‘cancellation of export duty on 83 steel products, export license system, export rebate reduction of some steel pipe and steel products’ have caused a regulation amid steel industry.
While at the rising steel price, we should observe the threat from rising iron ore cost. The iron ore export growth from India to China has only jumped 5.3% during Jan to Oct 2007 compared with the same period of 2006, Australia and Brazil also fixed their blueprints to develop steel industry. Without resource, it is impossible for China to empower its steel industry in the future.
