AEPPL to Set Up Lithium Battery Plant in Mehsana in Gujarat

The Gujarat government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Japanese company Automotive Electronics Power Private Limited to set up INR 4,930 crore lithium battery plant in the state. The proposed plant will come up in Becharaji in Mehsana district. The company informed the government that the proposed plant will be functional by 2020 and is expected to provide jobs to around 1,000 people. AEPPL will make investments in two phases. In the first phase, the construction of manufacturing facilities for lithium battery packs and modules will be set up by the end of 2020 with an investment of INR 1,250 crore. AEPPL will invest INR 3,715 crore in the second phase for distribution and will produce 30 million units per year by 2025.

AEPPL MD Mr Ichizo Aoyama and Mr MK Das, the principal secretary for industries, signed the MoU in the presence of chief minister Mr Vijay Rupani.

AEPPL is a joint venture between motor production company Maruti Suzuki Corporation, Toshiba and Denso.
