Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio has successfully achieved Certification to the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard for several of its facilities in Brazil, including the largest integrated plant worldwide. The ASI Certifications include three bauxite mines in the state of Minas Gerais; an alumina refinery, a smelter and associated potlines, casthouses, anode production, SPL treatment plant and downstream productions, as well as the CBA headquarters, all in the state of São Paolo. The downstream activities at the São Paolo operations include sheet and foil production as well as profile extrusion, which are destined for use in diverse sectors including packaging and automotive. Taken together, the facilities in São Paolo state make up the world’s largest integrated aluminium production plant.

The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The ASI CoC Standard sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain, certified under the ASI Performance Standard, to the products produced by ASI Certified Entities.
