Economic Times German luxury car manufacturer Audi India reported 18 percent drop in 2018 sales at 6463 units when compared to 7876 units sold last year. The company claims that impact largely came from the Delhi NCR due to the closure of its single largest dealer location. The dealership which was spread over Central and Gurgoan was operated by Zenica Cars India Private Limited.

Apart from this, it also faced supply constraints of selected models owing to European market shift to WLTP cycles and resultant phase in - phase out of models, which also impacted deliveries.

Mr Rahil Ansari, Head Audi India said that "The year 2018 has been surely a challenging one for the automotive industry in India, especially in the second half of the year. The luxury segment was under pressure owing to financial market development, the changing customer sentiment and other reasons such as changes in policies with regard to taxes. We at Audi India faced some unforeseen business challenges during the year, which led to reduced deliveries for the year 2018. However, even in a difficult year, we managed to consolidate our position in the market while earning a profitable growth for our dealer partners.”

The luxury car manufacturer will be launching A8 and R8 in the Indian market in 2019 along with other exciting models. The company is also planning to launch e-tron which recently introduced.
