Economic Times reported that BMW Group has invested around 200 million euros in the expansion of electromobility in its Munich plant. This is the start of preparations for series production of the BMW i4, which will be manufactured at the company's headquarters starting in 2021.The plant with its approximately 8,000 employees is taking the decisive step towards the production site for all-electric vehicles and mobility concepts of the future.

Mr Robert Engelhorn, Head, Munich plant said that "Integrating an all-electric vehicle into an existing production system during production is a real Herculean task.”

BMW is pursuing the strategy of producing fully electric vehicles together with plug-in hybrids and combustion engine models on one and the same production line in their plants, rather than building separate production structures for electric cars.

Mr Engelhorn said that "A future-proof production system has the highest degree of flexibility in order to be able to react to fluctuations in volume and market developments that are not yet foreseeable today.”

According to the company, model range of the Munich headquarters in 2019 will comprise five vehicles with a consistently high performance demand.
