Brazilian exports of steel flats in 2017 jump 8.25%

Platts reported that Brazil's total exports of flat steel products in 2017 reached 2.35 million tonne, up 8.25% from the previous year. Data from the Ministry of Development and Foreign Trade showed that in monetary terms, these exports totaled USD 1.35 billion FOB, up 46%. In 2016, the 2.17 million tonne of products exported were valued at USD 922.19 million FOB.

Hot rolled coil exports last year totaled 1.62 million tonne, up 7.9%, while cold rolled exports reached 301,958 tonne, up 53.8%. Shipments of hot dipped galvanized coil came to 424,875 tonne, down 9.6%.

In 2016, exports of HRC totaled 1.5 million tonne; CRC, 196,347 tonne; and HDG, 470,334 tonne.

The main destinations for Brazilian exports of HRC in 2017 were Vietnam and Portugal, which took 368,823 tonne and 366,051 tonne, respectively. Exports of CRC mainly went to Germany (134,071 tonne) and Argentina (47,844 tonne).

For HRC, the main destinations were the US (234,589 tonne) and Argentina (144,475 tonne).
