Coal mining accident kills miner in Greenbrier County - Report

WVNS reported that the Mine Safety and Health Administration, also known as MSHA, released new details in the death of a coal miner in Greenbrier County. The accident reportedly happened on October 17 at Number 1 Surface Mine in Greenbrier County. According to MSHA, a 33-year-old auger helper with 3 days of total surface mining experience was killed in the accident. Officials said the miner was trying to move an auger that was on a crane when a section of the auger hit the miner in his chest.

This is the eighth fatality reported in calendar year 2018 in the coal mining industry and it is the first classified as Machinery. As of this date in 2017, thirteen fatalities were reported in the coal mining industry, with two in this classification.
