Conrad assures to probe illegal mining of uranium - Mr Sangma

The Shillong Times citing, chief minister Mr Conrad Sangma, as saying that the state government will look into the allegations of illegal drilling and illegal supply of uranium in the black market if there are such reports of such activities in the state. He said the government that the Uranium operation is a sensitive issue and said, 'There is no question of such things happening. As far as the state government is concerned, there is no question of this kind of activities especially when it comes to uranium mining, something that we have been very firm on."

Mr Sangma maintained that the government is unaware of such reports of any mining operations or a package containing uranium from Moreh at Indo-Myanmar border but assured to look into the matter if such reports pour in.

In view of the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills unit alleging that the recovery of the package is proof of the uranium mining being carried out in the state.
