The Independent reported that CANTON Firefighters who battled a blaze at a local recycling business Wednesday afternoon had to replace four tires on their ladder truck. The tires had taken on scrap metal while battling a fire at the crusher at Slesnick Steel & Recycling, Warner Road SE, said Capt. Charles Day of the Canton Fire Department.

Firefighters called to the facility at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday found heavy smoke coming from the large machine that is used to crush vehicles.

Mr Day explained that “Vehicle parts caught fire while being processed through the machine. We had to cut power to the machinery before we could put the fire out.”
