Bosnian gas supplier BH-Gas said that the European Union’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations has approved the construction of a gas interconnector between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project will help the country diversify its gas supply sources and routes from its current dependence on Russian gas, which it obtains via Serbia and Hungary. The company will cooperate closely with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the new supply route could be up and running by 2023-24.

BH-Gas considers the EU green light as a positive sign that shows, once again, EU interest in meeting the energy needs of Bosnia and Herzegovina while at the same time helping the country on its path towards EU accession.
