WVVA reported that four mining operations have applied for permits with the West Virginia Dept of Environmental Protection. The Raleigh County Commission received copies of the requests this week, according to Commission President Dave Tolliver.

They are the Rhino Eastern Mine Company, which has applied for a permit for an operation in Bolt. Alex Energy Coal Inc has also applied for a permit for a surface and high wall mine at Marsh Fork.

Two existing Pocahontas Coal Company operations in Rhodell and Slab Fork have applied to renew permits in Raleigh County. They include a Rhodell operation, which is a surface mine in Tommy Creek, and a deep mine operation in Slab Fork.
