Goodyear India working on tyres for EVs, to enter other vehicle segments - Report

ETAuto reported that with the growing emphasis on moving from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles (EVs) in India, US-based tyre major Goodyear is looking to manufacture tyres best suited for the EVs, in a bid to tap the future market potential.

The company, which majorly caters to the passenger vehicle segment, is also evaluating options to enter into the two and three wheeler space as also the commercial vehicle segment.

Mr Jenner Powell, Product Director Asia Pacific, Goodyear, said that "We are working on the idea to make tyres for electric vehicles as it is the future."

The company, PK Walia, Vice President, Consumer Business, Goodyear India said, "Globally we are working with the electric vehicle manufacturers and as and when specific need arises from the OEMsin India, we will be at the forefront".

When asked about talks being held with EV manufacturers in India such as Tata Motors and Mahindra, Walia said, "These are very initial discussion as a lot of conversation is happening in the industry."

The company has two plants in India, one each in Ballabgarh and Aurangabad.

Talking further about entering into other vehicle segment, he said, "India is a very large two and three wheeler market and we are constantly evaluating the opportunities in the segment and we are actively looking at the commercial space as well."

He, however, denied specifying any timeline as to by when will the company start manufacturing the tyres for the new segments.
