Maruti Suzuki Alto exports down by 25pct in FY18

Economic Times reported that India's largest selling car Alto has seen decline in overseas shipment as the compact car's exports dipped by 25 per cent to 15918 units in FY17-18 compared to 21229 units exported in the previous fiscal.

Despite toping the chart in the domestic market, Alto has seen fall in exports for the second consecutive fiscal year. In FY 2015-16, the cumulative exports of the Alto stood at 54,656 units.

Alto retained its top spot in FY18 as the highest-selling passenger vehicle with the sales of 258,539 units.The company’s other models like the Baleno also saw a decline during the year. The Baleno's exports declined 15.81 % in FY18 to 41,433 units from 49,248 units in FY17.

While Maruti’s other models such as Ignis, Celerio, Dzire and Swift saw spike in exports.

The Dzire model saw a huge jump from just two units it sold in FY17 to 6,643 units in the previous fiscal. Similarly, the Ignis exports saw a mammoth jump during the fiscal at 22,969 units, against just 2,602 units in FY17.

Exports of the Swift also grew 22.97 % at 16,899 units, compared to 13,742 units in the same period previous fiscal. Likewise, the Celerio exports stood at 10,127 units in FY18, against 9,923 units in the year ago period, up 2.05 %.
