Mr Andrey Varichev, CEO of Management Company Metalloinvest, participated in a meeting between Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, and leading representatives from the Russian and Turkish business sectors. In his speech, Mr Andrey Varichev stressed the importance of developing partnerships amid volatility in the international market. Metalloinvest’s CEO thanked Turkish colleagues on behalf of the ‘Russian Steel’ association for their constructive dialogue during an investigation conducted by Turkey into the safety of metal products.

The CEO of Metalloinvest suggested exploring opportunities to find comprehensive solutions to eliminate common barriers. One of the most effective tools is a preferential trade agreement between countries. This would enable not only the development of mechanisms for trade deregulation but would also promote the growth of joint commodities turnover.

Turkey is one of Russia’s key partners in the steelmaking industry. The countries have long-standing historic relations and Russia accounts for approximately 40% of steel products imported into Turkey and is its largest supplier. Turkish household appliances, electrical equipment, pipes and other goods supplied for export are produced using Russian steel, confirming the strength of the two countries’ cooperation.
