Spanish power and gas utility Naturgy Energy Group SA announced that it has laid the first stone for a 29.2-MW wind farm. The Puerto del Rosario Wind Park, as it is named, is the company's second to be built on the island of Fuerteventura and the largest in the Canary Islands. Its total cost is estimated at over EUR 35 million.

Comprised of eight wind turbines, the facility should be completed in the first quarter of 2021. Once operational, Puerto del Rosario is expected to generate around 105 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 42,000 homes and offset 52,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.

Naturgy's first wind park in Fuerteventura, the 4.7-MW Fuerteventura Renewable II, reached its full capacity in December 2018.
