Argus Media reported that NMDC's long-delayed 3 million tonne per year integrated steel plant may start operations by September or October this year. The blast furnace and most other facilities at the plant in Nagarnar are expected to start by the September-October deadline. The plant's coke oven has already come on line, as well as a railway siding to haul in coal.

NMDC last set a March 2019 date for the first hot-rolled coil output at Nagarnar, after missing previous deadlines of October 2018 and December 2017.
