Petrobras, operator of the Libra Consortium, signed a contract with the SBM Group for chartering and operation of the second definitive production system of the field of Mero, located in the northwest area of the block of Libra. The unit will be installed in the Mero 2 project, about 180 kilometer off the coast of Rio de Janeiro and an average water depth of 2,100 meters in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin. The FPSO will link up to 16 wells and will have the capacity to process up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day and 12 million cubic meters per day of gas. The start of production is scheduled for 2022. The platform will join the FPSO Pioneiro de Libra, dedicated to early production systems, in operation since November 2017 and to the FPSO Guanabara, the first unit planned for the final production system of the Mero field, with production scheduled for 2021.

Mr Carlos Alberto Pereira de Oliveira, executive director of Exploration and Production at Petrobras, said that "At the end of the plan period, we will have two definitive production systems operating, which could add up to 360 thousand barrels petroleum production per day. With the information already obtained in the tests being carried out, we confirm the high production potential of the Mero field, which has an estimated reserve of between 3 and 4 billion barrels."
