Port of Antwerp has started market consultation for the expansion of container handling capacity in the port of Antwerp. The purpose of this consultation is to gauge the interest of potential concessionaires and at the same time gain insights into a number of important themes such as mobility, emissions and sustainable use of space. During the summer, the draft preference decision for Extra Container Capacity Antwerp was subjected to a public investigation. After processing the comments and objections, the Flemish Government will choose one alternative for the expansion of the port of Antwerp: the definitive preference decision.

In the subsequent phase, the elaboration phase, the chosen alternative is made concrete. The market consultation gives Port of Antwerp the opportunity to enter into a transparent dialogue with the market during this new phase, namely companies that may be interested in additional container handling capacity in the port. The fourth and final phase in the complex project is the effective implementation of the various building blocks for extra capacity.

The purpose of the consultation is not only to detect potential concessionaires. Port of Antwerp also wants them to think about the content of the action program that is described in the draft preference decision. The three most important points from this action program of the Flemish government are mobility and achieving the modal split objectives, concrete measures to reduce emissions, and sustainable and efficient use of space. We therefore ask potential concessionaires how they think they will achieve those objectives.
