Bloomberg reported that Vale’s former CEO Mr Fabio Schvartsman, alomg with 9 other Vale employees, has been charged with homicide over the environmental disaster that killed more than 250 people in the state of Minas Gerais last January. Five others from German firm TUV SUD, which ruled the Brumadinho dam safe just months before it collapsed, also face homicide charges.

Vale said it would examine the full content of the charges before issuing a formal respond. It said “Vale reiterates its solidarity with the families of the victims and the people affected by the tragedy and its confidence on the complete clarification of the causes of the dam breach, reaffirming its commitment to continue to fully co-operate with the authorities.”

A report commissioned by Vale and released in December blamed faulty design for the dam’s collapse. The facility was too steep and had insufficient drainage, resulting in high water levels that put stress on the structure
