TOI reported that residents in the posh Vesu and Magdalla areas in the Diamond City are planning to knock on the doors of Gujarat High Court against the erring coal dealers. Reason: Heavy transport vehicles carrying out coal consignment from the Magdalla port spill mounds of coal ash on the entire stretch from Magdalla to Vesu on the Surat-Sachin highway causing serious problem from black dust. The entire road from Magdalla towards Vesu is facing the coal dust problem for a long time. Despite various representations by the environment activists to curb the nuisance of the coal spillage to the local authorities, the nuisance continues.

Following state transport department’s directive, the Regional Transport Office had recently conducted a drive against the overloaded transport vehicles including the coal trucks plying on the Surat-Dumas road and collected lakhs of rupees as penalty from the coal transporters. But the issues of coal dust is yet to get settled.

Mr Neeraj Aggarwal, a textile businessman living in Vesu said that “We can’t even think of jogging on the BRTS road thanks to the pollution from coal dust. Despite several complaints, the authorities are unmoved. We have now decided to knock on the doors of the high court for a permanent solution.”
