Montel reported that Russian coal production rose 7% in the first three-quarters of the year to 324m tonnes, thanks to improved logistics infrastructure and relatively strong export demand, official data showed. The total was nearly 7m tonnes higher than provisional government estimates published earlier this month. Russia has actively upgraded its ageing port and rail infrastructure over the past couple of years, while healthy demand for seaborne supplies from European and Asian buyers has also encouraged higher production levels.

Provisional government data showed Russia’s coal exports over the nine-month period were up 4pct YoY to 114m tonnes.
