ET reported that South West Port Ltd has approached Goa State Pollution Control Board for renewal of consent to operate for coal handling at MPT’s berths while the port has sought permission to handle coal at mooring dolphins. The applications are likely to be discussed at a board meeting to be held on March 15. MPT has approached GSPCB for grant of common consent for the port.

A GSPCB officer said that MPT’s application for consent to operate at mooring dolphins, placed before the board during its 32nd meeting on March 27, 2018, was rejected as prior environmental clearances were not submitted. MPT has resubmitted its application for handling bauxite, break bulk cargo, iron ore, limestone, pellets, pig iron and sand at mooring dolphins 1, 2, 3.

The officer said that the board had decided to grant SWPL consent to operate against a bank guarantee of INR 1 crore to ensure compliance with consent conditions, including capping.
