Technology playing a vital role in measuring Air Quality - CPCB

Sri A Sudhakar, Member Secretary, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) called for maintaining a good environment systems by industries that would help increase the life span and living standards of the people. He also advised to use of technology in measuring air quality in controlling pollution. He made this observation while delivering the key note address at the one - day workshop on ”Online continuous emission & effluent monitoring systems” jointly organized by Central Pollution Control Board and RINL-VSP at Ukkunagaram.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Sudhakar said that e-governance and online emission monitoring systems are playing a vital role in ensuring a better and healthy life and are contributing to reducing pollution levels. He said that the people are more aware about the environmental hazards and that technology/IOT is helping them to monitor the air quality and take remedial measures. He said that industries are coming forward to share the data related to the emissions thanks to technology and internet. While hailing Vizag Steel as a pride of the nation, he commended highly the eco system, and the environment protection measures being implemented by RINL in and around the plant.

Sri P Madhusudan, CMD,RINL in his opening remarks mentioned that nature and mankind are struggling to survive due to rise in environment problems and hence companies tend to adopt more eco-efficient and innovative practices to balance the nature and that would enhances productivity by reducing of inputs and improved efficiency. He said that well defined environmental control measures with strict compliance to standards would reduce human health costs from pollution exposure and added that RINL has introduced new technologies for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and made huge investments on environmental protection systems in expansion also. He said that RINL developed a software tool “Evasion” in-house for posting real time data from online systems to the process owners at control points to facilitate timely corrective actions.
