The Freeport of Riga Throughput Down by 10.8% YoY in 8M’2019

In January-August 2019, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 21,363,300 tonnes of cargo (-10.8%, YoY), as IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, transshipment of coal fell by 30.3% to 6,628,900 tonnes, oil products fell by 13.7% to 2,424,300 tonnes, wood pellets grew by 19.8% to 681,400 tonnes, ore grew by 12.5% to 388,400 tonnes. The Port’s container throughput grew by 2.7% to 311,447 TEUs.

In the reporting period, passenger turnover decreased by 1.7% to 615,385 people including 58,716 cruise passengers (-13%).

Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2018, the port handled 36,431,900 tonnes of cargo.
