Construction Week Online reported that the UAE's Ministry of Infrastructure and Development revealed that roadworks on its USD 36 million programme covering construction and expansion activities for Sharjah-Masafi Road in Sharjah and Etihad Road in Ajman had noted major progress, with both developments due to complete in 2020 and improve traffic flow in the UAE emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, and Ras Al Khaimah. Director of the ministry’s southern region operations, Eng Munira Abdulkarim, said the first project included the implementation of developing and upgrading the E88 road to Sharjah-Al Dhaid-Masafi from Battaih road. Work began on the scheme in December 2018 and is currently at 14% completion, with full completion expected in Q3 2020.

However, phase 2 of the project, worth USD 22.3 million, will see the road widened to a two-lane road in each direction, spanning 13 kilometer. The second phase will connect Intersection 10 on Sharjah-Al Dhaid Road with Mahafez intersection on Sharjah-Maliha Road (E102), with internal and external shoulders to be developed.
