US Aluminium Recovery from Scrap Drops by 16% YoY

According to the latest report from United States Geological Survey for aluminium total aluminium recovered from scrap (recovery from purchased, tolled, or imported scrap) in July 2019 was 275,000 tonne, 4% less than the June volume of 286,000 tonnes. The volume is 16% less than the amount in July 2018, and 9% less than that in July 2017.

Of this, 145,000 tonnes of aluminium were recovered from new scrap and 129,000 tonnes were recovered from old scrap. For the first seven months of 2019, total aluminium recovery from scrap stood at about 2 million tonnes, down slightly from 2.17 million tonnes in the same period of 2018. Of this, 1.1 million tonnes of aluminium were recovered from new scrap and 880,000 tonnes were recovered from old scrap.

Inventories of primary aluminium in LME-approved warehouses in the United States decreased to 8,175 tonne at the end of July from 12,050 tonne at the end of June. Inventories of secondary aluminium (North American Secondary Aluminum Alloy Contract) in LME-approved warehouses in the United States decreased to 85,020 tonnes at the end of July from 93,340 tonnes at the end of June (London Metal Exchange Ltd.).
