Zvezda Shipbuilding Carries Out First Launch of Aframax Tanker Main Engine

The Zvezda Shipbuilding complex successfully carried out the first launch of the main engine of Vladimir Mohomakh Aframax tanker. That’s the final part of mooring tests of the vessel that shows positive results of Aframax systems and equipment tests and settings, as well as tanker readiness for sea trials. At the moment commissioning and coating works at the vessel have been finished, fire suppression systems have been commissioned. Before the launch the main engine was centered. The tanker is being prepared for sea trials. It is planned to transfer the ship to the customer - Rosneft subsidiary Rosnefteflot - that specialises on freight and port provision, implementation of shipbuilding projects and sea and river fleet management.

Aframax oil loading tankers are designed for carrying oil and petroleum products in unrestricted navigation. The length of the tanker is 250 metres, width 44 metres, deadweight 114 thousand tonnes, speed 14.6 knots, ice-class ICE-1A. The tanker has a helicopter pad.

Vladimir Monomakh is the first-in-class Aframax tanker never built in Russia before. The keel of the first tanker was laid on September 11, 2018, in the presence of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. In May 2020, the ship was launched ahead of contractual time frame.

For now, Zvezda Shipbuilding complex portfolio includes 12 Aframax tankers, 10 of which were ordered by Rosnefteflot. At the moment there are five such tankers being manufactured and built in the shipyard shops and on the berth.
