Courier Mail quoted Australia former foreign minister Mr Bob Carr as that credit for moves that could scuttle the Adani megamine that promised thousands of jobs in central Queensland. Mr Carr was reported in Sydney media saying he had been assured that no Chinese investors would finance the project.

He also said he had been lobbying Chinese organisations against the project on behalf of the Australian Conservation Foundation for the past three weeks. Mr Carr told the ABC that “There’s been a significant number of [Chinese] financial institutions and they’ve said, after looking at it, they’re not going to invest money into Adani.”

Mr Carr said that “I’ve been talking to both government and financial institutions at a level that makes me confident there will be no financial support for this project.”

A series of high level diplomatic meetings have occurred in recent weeks between Australian politicians and the Chinese Government over the project.

The Australian Government had also written letters of support for the mine in a bid to calm nerves over the environmental activists who have successfully forced the Queensland Government to veto any federal taxpayer funds going into the project.
