Mining Monthly reported that New Hope’s coal production for the July quarter was up 10.8% on the prior corresponding period with a strong performance from its 40% share of the Bengalla mine in New South Wales helping overcome lower Queensland production. Strong coal sales in the final quarter, in combination with continued improvements in coal prices resulted in record coal revenues for the quarter. Production from Queensland operations on a full year basis was slightly lower while production from New South Wales operations has improved 11.3% on the prior corresponding period.

For the year ended July, New Hope produced 5.1 million tonnes of saleable coal from its Queensland operations and 3.7Mt from its NSW operations.

The company said the focus on operational improvement throughout the year resulted in the Bengalla operation achieving solid fourth quarter coal production.
