Business Line reported that there has been all time high coal rake loading consistently in the last fortnight. An official statement said that “After sustained effort all-time high rake loading could be achieved. This comes up to more than three hundred rakes a day consistently for last 15 days.”

As a result, a level of 14.5 million tonnes coal stock at power houses was recorded on February 5 as compared to 8.5 million tonnes on September 30, 2017.

The average rake loading to the thermal power plant has also increased from 209.8 rakes a day in October, 2017 to 226 rakes a day in February, 2018.

Coal India supplied 371.8 million tonnes of coal to the power sector and 103.1 million tonnes coal to non-power sector till January in the current financial year. This is a growth of 6.8 % to the power sector and 8.8 % to the non-power sector despatch compared to the same period in the last financial year, the statement added.

According to the Coal Ministry statement, to boost supply to thermal power stations, a strategic decision has been taken to ensure coal supply from pit head to power stations located within 50 km through road and the available rake from the circuit was utilised to supply distant thermal power stations.
