TOI reported that Goa Industrial Development Corporation has applied for yet another coal block as part of the sixth tranche of coal mines opened by Coal India. If successful in its bid, the corporation will mine both the additional coal block along with the Dongri Tal II coal block already allocated to Goa. The decision was announced after the GIDC board meeting where industries minister Mr Vishwajit Rane and GIDC chairman Mr Glenn Ticlo were in attendance. Mr Rane said that IDC has applied for the sixth tranche. The Goa government has given approval and we will have to get a consultant on board to identify the party that will extract coal. We have got a coal block in the fifth tranche in Madhya Pradesh. If we get both we will go ahead with both.

Mr Rane said that “The agency has to be reappointed through a transparent process for which we need a consultant. The chairman will be in a position to identify the agency by December 31. The government is not going to delay any decision.”

Mr Ticlo said the file on the proposed auction of SEZ land is with the chief minister’s office. The auctioning of the SEZ land requires the chief minister’s approval. Once we get the CM’s approval only then can we move ahead.

The report said that GIDC intended to rope in validated consultants to help the state with the coal block utilisation and with the auction of the industrial land returned by the special economic zone promoters.
