Reuters citing, Mr Grzegorz Tobiszowski, the deputy energy minister, as saying that Poland’s energy ministry is working on solutions regarding coal mines owned by state-run energy firm Tauron Polska Energia. Poland’s ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party is committed to maintaining the coal industry, and finding a way to keep Tauron’s loss-making mines running would fit into this strategy.

Sources told Reuters that Tauron is considering selling some of its coal mines.

Mr Tobiszowski said that “The energy ministry is working on solutions for Tauron’s coal assets. Tauron has investments ahead of it, we want it to invest in renewable energy. We want to present a solution for Tauron’s mines as early as May.”
