Third vessel with US coal arrives in Ukrainian port

Unian reported that bulk carrier was moored to berth No.1 of the first terminal on December 26. The dispatcher service said that "It [SBI CARIOCA] has delivered coking coal of Rocklick and Premium Eagle brands from the United States of America. The unloading has already started."

According to Deputy Chief of the First Terminal Mykola Smischuk, it is planned to upload the bulker at a rate of 15,000 tonnes per day. Thus, the vessel is expected to have been unloaded within four days. Then the imported coal will be delivered by rail to Ukrainian thermal power plants.

Ukraine has been experiencing a shortage of energy coal of A (anthracite) and T (semi-anthracite) grades after the beginning of the conflict in Donbas. A total of seven out of 14 TPPs and some large combined heat and power plants use this coal in Ukraine.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on November 18, the port of Chornomorsk received the second vessel with 75,000 tonnes of gas coal from the US It was delivered to DTEK's TPPs to replenish their stocks, which will enable the stations operate with increased load, feeding the required capacity into Ukraine's power grids during the heating season.
