Leading provider of construction and infrastructure services Kier has handed over a new state-of-the-art physical training centre to the Defence Infrastructure Organisation. Situated at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, the new building meets the DIO’s ambitions of providing 21st century physical training to modern Navy standards, with its 600 personnel now able to benefit from the first-class facilities. Within the building, there is a multi-purpose main hall as well as three activity spaces which include a weights room. It also includes changing rooms, laundry and drying rooms and offices for staff.

Kier delivered this new building whilst being compassionate to the local indigenous wildlife found within the grounds. The new building supports the MOD’s efforts to minimise emissions and reduce its carbon footprint with a number of environmentally friendly features, including solar thermal and photovoltaic panels to reduce the reliance on electricity and wind catchers to naturally ventilate the sports hall.
