Maldives Water and Sewarage Company signs contract with Chinese company for bridge pipeline installation

China Communications Construction Company Ltd Second Habour Engineering Corporation (CCCC) has officially been entrusted with the project of water pipeline installations and fiber cable construction through the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge being developed from capital city Male' to suburban extension Hulhumale.

In a ceremony held, a contract was signed between Maldives Water and Sewarage Company (MWSC) and CCCC where Managing Director (MD) of MWSC Ibrahim Fazul signed on behalf of the company and Executive General Manager signed on behalf of CCCC.

Speaking at the ceremony, MD Fazul said that the government plans to make various network installations including electricity and water system in the near future.

Fazul highlighted the main initiative behind the installment of water pipelines is to establish a water pumping system between the capital city and it's suburban extension.

Following this installment, the MD said that water security will be fully guaranteed to citizens of Male' atoll.

China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd will complete China-Maldives Friendship Bridge Water Pipeline and Fiber Cable Construction and Installation, including the foundation, construction and water pipe line installation, under the Contract signed today.

Fazul further said that all the equipments needed for the installation project has been brought to the capital city and he hopes the works for the project will begin in the near future.

Although the construction of the project has been handed to CCCC, MWSC will be handling the supplies of water pipelines and adequate equipment for the project.

About USD 1.6 million (approximately MVR 25 million) is estimated to be spent for this project which is to be completed before September, according to MWSC.
