Japanese owner NYK has placed an order at Japan Marine United for the construction of a capesize bulker with delivery scheduled in 2021. NYK said that the vessel is a next generation energy-saving vessel, which will be compliant with Tier III emission regulations and the IMO SOx emission cap, and will have a larger cargo space than a conventional ship. The vessel will be fitted with a scrubber, and is expected to transport raw materials for JFE Steel Corporation under a long-term charter contract.

NYK said that “In accordance with its medium-term management plan Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalization and Green, the NYK Group continues to secure stable freight rates through long-term contracts and is making efforts to contribute to realizing a sustainable society through the operation of an environment-friendly ship.”
