On July 8, 2019, an agreement was signed in Tokyo to co-operate in the commercialization of AMAG's aluminum rolled products in the global automotive industry. The contract partners AMAG, Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc and Marubeni Corporation have agreed to bundle the common strengths for the time being in the Japanese market. The quality of the AMAG rolled products coupled with the market presence and local sales and service center structure of the Japanese contractors bring numerous advantages for customers in the Japanese automotive industry in terms of quality and delivery performance. The agreement also envisages extending cooperation to the key markets of Europe, China, USA, Mexico, India, Thailand and South Korea.

Marubeni said that "With the help of the global processing and logistics network, Marubeni will contribute to reducing the weight of vehicles and promoting the use of sustainably produced aluminum by expanding the marketing of AMAG automotive products."

With a forecast medium-term growth of around 10% per year, the automotive industry is an important growth factor in the area of aluminum rolled products. With the new plants in Ranshofen, the technological competence and the pronounced strength in recycling, AMAG is optimally positioned for this development.

With a car fleet of around 62 million vehicles and an annual output of around 9.2 million vehicles, Japan is a very attractive market. The country ranks third globally in car manufacturing countries behind China with 26.7 million vehicles and the US with 11 million vehicles. Around 4.2 million of the vehicles produced in Japan are exported, mainly to North America and Europe.
