Mines Tribunal Stays Order Against NMDC Donimalai Mine Mining Lease Suspension

NMDC filed Revision Petition on 19.08.2019, before The Hon’ble Mines Tribunal, Government of India, New Delhi challenging the Order No CI 78 MMM 2016 dated 17.08.2019 issued by Government of Karnataka withdrawing the extension of Mining Lease No 2396 of Donimalai Iron Ore Mine, granted earlier vide its orders dated 02.11.2018 & 15.11.2018 for a period of 20 years wef 04.11.2018 to 03.11.2038. The condition imposed to levy premium equivalent to 80% of average sale price while extending the period of lease was set aside by the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka vide its Order dated 12.07.2019. Mines Tribunal, issued letter No.13/02/2019/RC-I dated 20.08.2019 fixing the hearing on 21.08.2019 at 3.30 PM. Hon’ble Tribunal heard the submissions made by NMDC on 21.08.2019 and ordered as under: “Accordingly the impugned order dated 17.08.2019 and any consequent action thereon are stayed until the next date of hearing”.

NMDC said “The said Stay Order would prohibit Government of Karnataka to take any further action regarding mining lease or initiate auction process of Donimalai mine.”
