NTPC power generation capacity reaches 53,000 Mw

NTPC Ltd, India’s largest power generator announced it has commissioned two units of 660 Megawatt capacity each at Meja Thermal Power Project in Uttar Pradesh. With the commissioning of the two units, the company’s total capacity has reached 53,651 MW.

The company said in a statement that "Located in the trans-Yamuna region of Meja in Allahabad, the power plants are inbuilt with super-critical technology that enables higher temperature and pressure resulting in higher efficiency, reduced fuel consumption and minimal emission of greenhouse gases.”

A joint venture between NTPC Limited and the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUN), Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited (MUNPL) achieved its full load of 660 Mw from the first unit on March 31.

The NTPC Group operates 21 coal-based, 7 gas-based, 11 solar Photo-Voltaic, 1 hydro and 1 wind project apart from 9 subsidiaries or joint venture power stations. The state-owned firm is currently building an additional capacity of over 19,000 Mw at multiple locations across the country.
