TASR reported that Polish company Gaz-System and Slovak Eustream signed an agreement on the realization of the Poland-Slovakia interconnection pipeline. This is a European project of common interest. Under this agreement, both operators of the natural gas transmission network have received a positive final investment decision on this project. The new 165-kilometer gas pipeline will allow for a greater diversification of natural gas resources in the region by creating a missing link between the Polish and Slovak transport networks. The start of the construction works is planned for the second half of 2018 with the planned end of the year 2021.

The Poland-Slovakia interconnection pipeline is a key part of the NSI East Gas priority corridor, which will contribute to the security of supply in the region and integration of the gas markets. Central and Eastern European countries will thus gain direct access to multiple sources of gas from the north, including fully functional LNG terminals in the Baltic Sea and Norway, as well as from the south via the Slovak-Hungarian interconnection and the planned Eastring pipeline. The Eustream project will also help to increase liquidity in the gas market in the region and to strengthen solidarity between the two countries.
