Land Acquired and GT Road Widening to Start in October 2019 - Officials

TOI reported that road journey from Delhi to Aligarh may soon become more comfortable. The National Highways Authority of India has decided to start work on the widening of the Grand Trunk Road highway between Ghaziabad and Aligarh NH-91 by next month. The 126 kilometer stretch, starting from Ghaziabad’s Lal Kuan via Sikandarabad, Bulandshahr and Khurja districts till Aligarh, will be widened from four to six lanes. And NHAI plans to wrap up the work by January 2023. The estimated cost of highway broadening is Rs 500 crore.

Mr PP Singh, NHAI’s deputy general manager, Aligarh zone, said that “We have asked Ghaziabad-Aligarh Expressway Pvt Ltd, which have been assigned the job of widening the existing four-lane highway to six lanes to submit work schedule by next week, following which we hope that the work will start by next month. There were issues involving land acquisition on the stretch, but the same have been sorted out. And to start work, we were awaiting monsoon to get over and we plan to wrap up the work by January 2023. The firm will be developing the highway on built-operate-transfer basis at an estimated cost of INR 500 crore.”
