Maruti Suzuki India has stopped the production of the present Ignis. The company has also started working on a mid-life upgrade of the car. This does not come as a surprise as it is already been two years since the car was launched in India in January 2017. The SUV-styled hatchback is sold through Nexa dealerships alongside Baleno, S-Cross and Ciaz. Several reports available online are claiming that Maruti Suzuki has terminated the manufacturing of the current Ignis. So far as the numbers are concerned, the company has not been able to attract as many buyers for Ignis as there are for the premium hatchback Baleno.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to take a cue from the recently updated Baleno and give Ignis a new front design with a refurbished bumper and grille. The hatchback might get the new precision cut smoked two tone alloy wheels as well.

Inside the cabin, the updated Ignis is definitely going to have several cosmetic changes. Just like the recently launched third-generation WagonR and Baleno facelift, Maruti Suzuki can be expected to provide the Smartplay Studio infotainment system in the 2019 Ignis as well.

As of now, Ignis is available only in a four-cylinder 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine churning out 82 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque. The powertrain is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox with an option for an automatic transmission as well. The car gives a mileage of 20.89 kmpl, as claimed by the company. Earlier, there was an option for a diesel motor as well. But owing to low demand, it was discontinued in June 2018. The facelift is expected to feature the same petrol engine.

Ignis makes use of Maruti Suzuki's HEARTECT platform giving it more stability and safety. The hatchback gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and seat belt pre-tensioners with force limiters as standard across all variants. It is also meets compliance criteria with regard to pedestrian protection, full frontal impact, frontal offset impact and side impact.

Below are the variant-wise price (ex-showroom, Delhi) details of Ignis.

Sigma (Manual) - INR 4.66 lakh
Delta (Manual) - INR 5.27 lakh
Zeta (Manual) - INR 5.69 lakh
Alpha (Manual) - INR 6.51 lakh
Delta (Automatic) - INR 5.82 lakh
Zeta (Automatic) - INR 6.25 lakh
Alpha (Automatic) - INR 7.05 lakh

Maruti Suzuki is going to provide several new features in the top variants of the Ignis facelift, but it will be interesting to see what kind of changes are made in the lower models. With the facelift getting several tweaks, a price rise across the variants of Ignis cannot be ruled out.
