ONE (Ocean Network Express) Line, the sixth largest global company in liner shipping, shipped its first magenta coloured brand new container from Allied ICD Durgapur in a closely-held function on April 16, 2018 where senior Customs officials, company executives of ONE Line and customers of the Durgapur region were present, among others. ONE’s colour and appearance are only part of the equation to stand out in the container shipping trade and to represent the new that is emerging.

In July 2017, ONE Line was formed by merging the liner shipping businesses of the three major Japanese companies, viz., Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ("K" Line). It has a very large fleet size of 1.4 million TEUs and more than 250 ships operating globally in all major global trade lanes, the latest IT systems and exclusive terminal ownerships portfolio. ONE positions itself as being "large enough to survive but still small enough to care". ONE is also member of the major shipping consortia called "The Alliance".

ONE offers an extensive liner network service portfolio covering over 100 countries internationally. It’s key focus will be on enhanced service and innovation, supported by a highly professional and experienced organisation with a strong financial balance sheet.

In his welcome address, ONE Line Eastern India Head and Deputy General Manager, Mr Subrata Chowdhury, highlighted the company’s vision to have major focus on the customer and add value in shipping solutions around the globe. Having its global headquarters in Singapore and India headquarters in Mumbai, ONE Line operates in 17 Indian locations to cover all the major ports and ICDs with a strong team of 370 employees. ONE Line’s management considers the Eastern India region as an upcoming market where container shipping business growth is consistent. With this launch, ONE wants to assure the trade of its dedicated focus to be a part of the growing business from this region with customised solutions. It aims to transform the global containerised business with totally new and innovative services.

In a communiqué to the trade, ONE Line East India highlighted the regular, multiple sailings every week from Kolkata and Haldia to major transhipment hubs like Singapore and Colombo to connect mainline services from there. The ONE Line Kolkata office will handle the East India ports business of Kolkata and Haldia along with adjoining ICDs in the region, including in the landlocked countries of Nepal and Bhutan, it said.
