Japan Today reported that Shimizu Corp has started construction of a woody biomass power plant with a rated output of 1.99MW in an industrial park in Tomi City, Nagano Prefecture. The plant will combust about 30,000 tonnes of wood chips per year, and the amount of electricity generated at the plant is equivalent to the amount consumed by 4,500 households. The FIT tariff set for the plant is ¥40/kWh.

To reduce workload at night and on holidays, Shimizu newly developed a machine that automatically puts wood chips into the plant from an area where chips are stored.
