Ukraine coal imports rise by 20pct YoY in September 2018

Interfax reported that imports of coal (foreign economic code 2701) to Ukraine rose to 15.640 million tonnes in the nine months of the year, a 20 percent YoY increase, worth USD 2.192 billion, 15.4 percent more. Ukraine imported coal (including anthracite) worth USD 1.375 billion from Russia (62.72 percent of the total), USD 670.564 million from the US (30.59 percent), USD 86.933 million from Canada (3.97 percent) and USD 59.532 million from other countries (2.72 percent). Ukraine exported 50,902 tonnes of coal worth USD 8.127 million in the period, including USD 4.597 million to Russia, USD 3.201 million to Slovakia, USD 255,000 to Moldova, and USD 74,000 to other countries.

Ukraine plans to increase imports of energy grade coal by 11.3 percent in 2018 to 5.669 million tonnes, including 4.882 million tonnes from Russia (up 29.6 percent), 664,000 tonnes from the US (up 47.7 percent), and 123,000 tonnes from South Africa (down 83.8 percent).
