Indian steel exports in FY18 surge by 17pct YoY

PTI reported that according to Joint Plant Committee (JPC) report India’s total export of finished steel increased by 16.7% to 9.621 million tonnes in 2017-18 as against 8.242 million tonnes finished steel during 2016-17 fiscal. Contribution of the non-alloy steel segment stood at 8.727 million tonnes, while the rest was the contribution of the alloy steel segment including stainless steel.

The import has also registered a rise during the last fiscal. Import of total finished steel rose by 3.5% to 7.482 million tonne in FY18 compared to 7.226 million tonne in the preceding fiscal. Contribution of the non-alloy steel segment stood at 5.636 MT, while the rest was the contribution of the alloy steel segment, including stainless steel

The production for sale of total finished steel at 104.966 million tonne, registered a growth of 3.1 per cent during April-March 2017-18 over same period of last year, in which contribution of the non-alloy steel segment stood at 95.004 million tonne, while the rest was the contribution of the alloy steel segment including stainless steel. Main producers (SAIL, RINL, Tata Steel, Essar Steel, JSW Steel and JSPL) produced 62.626 million tonnes during 2017-18. The rest came from the other producers
