Japanese steel mills assessing damage from earth quake

The devastating earth quake has hit the Japanese steel mills hard, although details of damage are yet to emerge.

As per reports, JFE Holdings Inc\'s steel plant in Chiba near Tokyo has caught fire and Keihin plant has also suffered some damage.

Sumitomo Metal Industries Ltd evacuated employees and shut down lines at its Kashima steelworks in Ibaraki Prefecture due to tsunami warnings.

Nippon Steel’s Muroran and Kimitsu works are also reported to have suffered some damage.
