Over 4000 coal mining permits granted in Indonesia

Steel News - Published on Wed, 04 Apr 2012

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said that 4,160 coal mining licenses have been granted. This was based on the verification and evaluation according to the Law no.4/2009 on Mineral and Coal Mining.

The coal business guidance director, Edi Prasodjo said that as many as 10,235 IUPs have entered the ministry for verification. He added that “The rest are still being processed. They could be cleared as well.”

Mr Edi further said the IUP verification would take a while due to problems such as overlapping work area in the provinces, such as in East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan. Sometimes the licenses are granted by a regent for areas outside their regency due to land expansion.
