South Korea’s Posco ICT Co has clinched an order to supply an unmanned crane system to a Chinese steel company after beating out global rivals including Germany’s Schneider Electric and Italy’s Danieli.

The Korean company said that Sunday it will deliver an automated control system to operate unmanned cranes at a steel mill to be built by China’s Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co in Hubei, Central China. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The new system would collect and analyze the data produced from the site and help automate the Chinese firm’s logistics system, laying the groundwork for the deployment of a smart factory.

The deal follows a similar order Posco ICT won from the Chinese company in July 2017 for its seaport storage facilities.

The Korean IT and engineering solutions provider, an affiliate of the country’s largest steelmaker Posco, has been striking up a string of deals with Chinese steel makers. Last year, it took part in the construction of a manufacturing execution system at a steel production site for China’s Rizhao Steel Co. to provide consulting services for the master plan of the entire system.
