TATA Steel processing and distribution implements SAP Plant Maintenance Module

Steel News - Published on Wed, 23 Apr 2014

Orissa Diary reported that SAP Plant Maintenance Module was rolled out at TATA Steel Processing and Distribution as extension of the main SAP ERP of the organisation, for plant and equipment maintenance process across all units.

Earlier there was no integrated ERP or online system for the plant and equipment maintenance and the need was felt based on a study by Renoir Consultants as well as TBEM feedback to eliminate the local excel-based isolated data management.

A cross functional team of SAP officials and maintenance engineers across units worked for three months, along with the implementation partner TATA Technologies.

The Go Live was inaugurated on April 2nd 2014 by Mr Sandipan Chakravortty, MD, Mr Abraham Stephanos, executive director, Mr Dipan Sen Gupta, head of information management, along with the business process owner Mr Ashok Balyan, head of operations of CR Unit, Jamshedpur in the presence of other senior officers from TSPDL.

As mentioned by the business process owner and head information management, SAP-PM will integrate the equipment master, breakdown maintenance, preventive maintenance, cause/effect analysis, view of spare part availability in stores across units, booking and ordering of spares, booking of manpower etc and will generate MIS reports like MTTR/MTBR, cost of maintenance etc.

It will help knowledge sharing and viewing of past breakdown data across any units, plants and will strengthen the internal knowledge base of the plant maintenance team.
